I love the reverb guitar. Some nice work here. Enjoy! This is “Hon-da Beach Party 1964” by the Hondells.
Most likely, where you work has some sort of Dress Code.
Who writes these things?
Get this: Employees will not wear:
Jeans that are ripped, Halter tops, tank tops, etc., etc.. on and on…..BUT——Blue Hair, Nose-rings, Yellow Lip-stick and weird/freaky hairstyles are just fine.
You cant be “distracting” with a sexually attractive appearance, (some places wont allow Sundresses, even though you are covered) but if you’re flat-out butt-ugly with tattoos and freaky hairstyles and grungy street-clothes and nose-rings or are just a plain outrageous eye-sore to the “community” (workplace) appearance, its OK.
So I ask: Just how outrageous would things need to get before we said” enough is enough” ? Too many today confuse “freedom-of-expression” with a “license” to see how glaring and odd they can be.
Rock On! Turn it up! Here’s George Thorogood and “I Drink Alone”.
This song kicks butt. But please drink responsibly. PS—-scroll down and see my last 15 posts on a variety of interesting topics. 🙂 — theOwl30
Party On!, with KC & the Sunshine Band — “Do You Wanna Go Party?” Thanks, Youtube!
Do you ever “People-watch”? It can be amazing what you see.
What is up with these people who are INDOORS and walk around wearing a thick wooly head-cap? Is it Raining indoors? Or are you bald-headed?
What is up with 45 yr. old women who have a Metal nose-ring right smack in the bottom-middle of their nose? As if they have a metal booger hanging out.
And whats up with Black men who walk around on the job at work with their pants half-way down their butt-crack and with their underwear crunched and rolled up on top of their low-hanging pants but still below their shirt….in front of others in the breakroom with no shame as if everybody else does it, ummm, NO! They don’t. 98% of most other folks don’t. So why do they? It a helluva way to “get attention” or to be noticed.
Many people, at work, having lunch in the breakroom, will be on their cell phone. This has become more common but—-what is up with those people who are not only on their cell phone but are also wearing a BIG set of Noise-cancelling Headphones AND talking out loud to whoever 20 minutes of their half-hour lunchbreak, in front of 7 or 8 other people in the breakroom, as if no one was there but them?
Once I was on “a first-date” with a woman and I silently noticed that as she was eating her dinner she ordered…..she ate allllll her steak (only. first.) and then alllll of her broccoli, til it was all gone…and then alllll her French fries……one. thing. only. at. a. time. Ok, it’s harmless and you could say: “so what” –but –do you know anyone else who does this? Are they really *that* proud of their “orderliness”? What’s up? People are funny.
“Do we have anything in common”? That’s the Magic question.
Finding a sweetie who is a “kindred spirit” can be wonderful. And—if they are “into” the wrong things, can be just as easily bbooorrrrrrrriinnngggg!!!
That said, when I’m on a date, I don’t wanna hear about (in no particular order):
1.Community Activism or “making a difference”. At all. Go away. Boring as hell.
2. Climate change or the landfills or over-population.
3. The Middle east.
4. New Age “Lightworkers”, Deepok Chopra or Oprah.
5. Recycling, composting or a vegan diet or anything about gluten-free.
6. Special needs anything or wounded warriors –(sad as they are).
7. Classical music, oil paintings or opera’s.
Having said that, now…go forth and be interesting!
Service, is overrated! Serving humanity. “A life of service.”
” Giving Back to the Community. ”
So that we can “Make a difference”.
And feel “empowered”.
Funny how no one ever spells out exactly what “the Community” ever already did for them, personally, so that they would ever feel any need to “give back” in the first place!
Its not that doing good things for others is bad, I’m not saying that. But its overrated. Far too many people do it so they can tell others that they did. They want the recognition.
To show they “cared”. And “made a difference”. Now, they get to feel “empowered.” And they “gave back to the Community” more than you did. It goes too far. And “being of service” far too often becomes a matter of putting burdens and a sense of obligation and Duty onto others –and ourselves!
Far too many people “give back” so that they can wear the pin or ribbon they got for “serving” to work the next day, so folks will ask them what that is, and maybe then they can 1-upmanship you and say how they “cared” enough to “make a difference” and now they “feel empowered” .
How much Volunteerism would really get done if you couldn’t tell anyone that you did it?
And, just suppose, what if loving and seeking God counted more than how many sandwiches you made at the Soup kitchen, or how many fundraisers you went to, or marathons you ran in? What if understanding spiritual laws and developing yourself spiritually counts more in the afterlife than your last fundraiser?
In the Bible, Jesus says in Matthew, chapter 22, verse 37 that the greatest commandment is that “you shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your soul and all of your mind.” In the very next verse, verse 38, he adds that “This is the first and great commandment.” After that, if you continue reading further, he goes on to say that the second great commandment is “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
In my opinion, the problem today is that too many people are trying to do the 2nd commandment and ignoring the 1st.
While Charity and doing good works are commendable, i feel that “Making a Difference” is todays politically-correct all-the-rage FAD. Everyone-and-their-dog wants to “make a difference” –and while kindness is good, “service” and “giving back” can become a burden that robs you of pleasure and Joy!
Don’t let it. Too much service can drain you emotionally. Some, is good. But watch out– it can become “Duty gone wild”. And people really can get “compassion fatigue”. No matter how much you do, you can’t save the world. It’s important to “feel alive!” , to have some Zest in life and to FEEL like smiling! Activists burn out. So do group organizers. Service becomes their “religion” or a 1-upmanship game with them to show everyone how much the “cared”. But many of them don’t look happy. They may tell themselves they are doing the right thing, but when they are away from “the Cause”, how enthusiastic (about Life-in-general) are they? How often do they laugh? Very likely, not enough. I say: being a helpful coworker, yes. Being a sincere & reliable friend, yes. But being a service-fanatic or community-activist so you can “look good” around others, naaah. What if you were stranded alone on a large island and couldn’t do anything for someone else? Would that make your Life meaningless?
I don’t always agree with Alan Watts, especially when he talks (in other videos) about “the Self”. Bleeaugh! But on some other things, I think he makes good points. But we all must decide for ourselves.
Many people are dumping Facebook. And Twitter.
Whatever happened to “My Space” ? Should there be a My Space 2.0 ?
Many people like WordPress. Some like Instagram, Tumblr or Wix.com
So I have a question for you: If you imagine the “coolest” kind of Blogging platform or social media “thingy”, what would it be like? What would make it The Best? Name 3 must-have features you would want in it.
Some things on my wish-list would be
1. No Text limit (or, a 12-page limit per post should be enough. Having it doesn’t mean that you always have to use it.). 2. Find other users by Topic/category, and by City. 3. I would actually LIMIT no more than 2 pictures included/attached with any post.
Here’s more: 4. MUCH better control/filtering of any “Timeline” and comments. Such as the ability to Block up to say, 50 users. And also something like: Only show/allow comments and only show me other posts from the country I created my account in. For example, I have no interest in reading posts or getting comments from Bolivia or Uzbekistan or from languages that I don’t speak. Give us the option.
It would also be nice to have some choices to alter colors and fonts. What do you think?
Does your Church teach Calvinism? I’m betting that 80% of Christians have no idea, if they even know what Calvinism is at all. And chances are if your Church is Calvinistic, I seriously doubt that they will announce it. They might answer you if you ask them but i think most of them will keep quiet about it.
Are YOU pre-destined to go to Hell? Or Heaven? What if you go to Heaven but your husband or wife was predestined to go to Hell? What about having Free Will? If people are pre-destined to either be or not be “Saved”, then what is the point of “Soul-Winning”?
Meet Jerry Walls. See ALSO his Youtube video: What’s Wrong With Calvinism PART ONE (especially). But here is a more condensed video by Walls on this topic. Thanks to Youtube and ThePristineFaith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzWN0Kw3Bl0
There is a good book on Boundaries, which you can get through Amazon.com called: Where To Draw The Line, by Anne Katherine.
But here’s a scenario/question I’d like to share, not in the book.
Who is in charge in your house or apartment? You are, or should be. Why? Because it’s *your* place! But if that’s true, then what if:
Your brother or sister comes over to stay for a few days, maybe a week. Let’s say your parents are also coming over, too and that you have a 2 or 3 bedroom place, so there is room for everyone to stay overnight. Even though they are family, you are still in charge of your own place and family or not, they should “respect your house” and that it’s “your house, your rules”. After all, who is in charge in their house? Simple enough. But what if your brother or sister decided to intrude on or ignore your boundaries “by doing a good thing”? Such as: Family is visiting you. Let’s say you go to the Mall in the daytime because you enjoy it and will be gone all afternoon til say, an hour before dinner. But, while you were out, let’s say your brother or your sister got the bright idea of going the grocery store, buying some meat, veggies and a bunch of food items and–without informing or asking you at all–just decided that they would cook dinner for everyone, using your kitchen, and they wont let you pay them back for the food they bought. You come back from the Mall, walk in the door and its 15 minutes before everything is ready.
It might be very tempting to just say: KEWWWL! Somebody cooked for me and it didnt cost me a dime, but—think further. is it really as simple and innocent as that? Or, would you feel like someone else “took over” and “ran right over you without asking first”? Maybe so they could one-up you and be “star of the show” in your own house? Or at the very least, ignoring you and overstepping their bounds? Let’s go further still. Suppose you do think so, but that your Mom or Dad defends that person, saying how it was all so “kind-hearted” of them, would you still think it was wrong? Are you going by what you feel or how others tell you how you should feel? How would you feel? Why? What if after dinner you all wanted to go see a movie and this same person picked the one you will all go to see, while visiting your house? Don’t you feel like this person is “taking over”? If no, why not? If yes, suppose they offered to pay the bill for everyone, does that mean they get their way or make the decision? Beware of manipulators offering gifts. How do you feel about all this? Boundaries are a very interesting topic. – TheOwl30
There you are. In the audience. Listening to one of the top 3 finalists, who is about to win the “High School City Princess” competition or the “Miss Whatever-County” Pageant. As you listen, it goes something like this:
“I’m senior class president. I play tennis and am on the swim team. And the drill team. I have a part-time job in the evening. I’m majoring in: 1.Elementary Education—-(or)—-2. Environmental studies —-(or)—3. Political Science —-(or)—4. Fashion Design (of course! Is it ever anything else?). I’m vegan, I work out and I do volunteer work on weekends.”
Wow! Sounds like a real “go-getter”, huh?
Uugghhh! YOU COULDN’T GIVE me…..you couldn’t PAY me, to have a Life like that!
Ask yourself: WHEN?!?—does she even have time to kiss her boyfriend?
To go to a movie in a theatre? To watch a sunset at the beach? Ha! No way. She’s farrrr too busy being a “success”. But she has no free time. How sad.
