Flash Forward, TV

There was a Blackout. It was Worldwide. But it wasn’t technology. It was People, everywhere, who blacked out. And they had visions. Of their own Future.

Some of these visions were quite bad. But do they have to happen? And then, as people go on living their lives, things and situations happen, and they realize: Oh my God! This was like part of what was in my earlier vision.

What caused the Blackout? What caused the visions? Are the people helpless against Fate? This show is available on DVD.

Carona virus, Cabin Fever & good Movies

As  we spend more time indoors due to the Carona Virus, here are some good movie/DVD/TV recommendations.   In no particular order:

  1. LMN (Lifetime Movie Network).  If you have cable TV, this channel basically shows one 2hr movie after another.  A surprising amount of good movies.  Great suspense! Movies involving: fake identities, stalkers, school crushes with the wrong person, warped psychos, people wanting revenge, evil neighbors and ripped-from-the-headlines stories. The good guys usually win, but can go through hell getting there.
  2. . the movie, “Police Academy”.  Maloney is a goof-off/prankster. It’s just plain funny. Buy the DVD or rent this.
  3.  “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” w/Steve Martin. The poor guy just wants to get home for the holidays to be with his family and one-thing-after-another goes wrong.  You gotta see this.
  4.  “The Dead Zone”.  a 70s movie. Its been a long time. Was it about mind control? But after all these years, I remember it was a good one.
  5.  “Firestarter”. Based on a Stephen King novel.
  6.  “Porkey’s”    Porkeys was a bar. The owner is a crabby old man. Some high school or college kids get revenge. Funny.  And—

Along with good movies, now is a good time to get the Family together, order a Pizza and get together around a big table and play some fun old Board Games.  People did more of this back in, say, 1970. It was a fun way to connect with friends. We can still do it now. Chances are, you’ve heard of the game: Monopoly.   But there are some other good ones. Barnes & Noble, Walmart or Target should have these. Try the games:

  1. Yahtzee ( a dice game)
  2.  Clue ( a who-dunnit crime game that leaves Clues)
  3.  Aggravation  (whoever gets all of their marbles around the board first, wins. But it takes rolling a 6 or a 1 to be able to move a marble out of the “home row”. There is also decison-making. Do you want to move-out another new marble or further advance one thats already out on the board?

Movies and Games. Gather ’round and enjoy some fun. And re-connect. For now, stay home and stay healthy.

The Lost Room. with Peter Krause

The LOST ROOM, with Peter Krause. This was awesome. On DVD. A short series.  Good Scifi.

A father and his daughter stay in a Motel.  The daughter goes into another room and disappears to….who knows?   Peter has a Key. He opens the door to go after her but strange things happen.

And then, the are the “Objects”. Ordinary things.  A Comb, a Flask, the Coat, a Train Ticket, the pair of Glasses, a Pen, a pair of scissors, the Nail file and several other things, but with very unusual powers.  Other people want these objects. Badly. There is also the Prime Object. Sort’ve a master object. Will Peter get his daughter back?   You can order this from Amazon, on DVD.   I really enjoyed this one.

More questions about Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker

OK. So I saw the trailer for Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker.

Questions: Are they skipping-around in the overall Timeline of things with this next movie, or not?  Will this movie continue where The Last Jedi ended? I hope so.

There is a line in the Trailer. Something like, no one is *really* dead, and then I’m reminded of emporer Palpatine with that sinister laugh, and so I ask:

  1. Was Snoke, a student of Palpatine? I am strongly thinking: NO, he isn’t, or wasn’t. Snoke himself had already mentioned that he had “seen the rise of the Republic.” I would think that would make him Older than Palpatine.   But that also raises a question:

2. If Snoke is Older, why didn’t Palpatine ever mention him? OR, could it be, that Snoke IS Palpatine??

I will be glad to find out more about Rey’s parents! I would also be glad to find out anything more about Maz Kanata. And who founded the First Order? What was its ORIGINAL purpose? Could it have been something good that was corrupted, or was it always evil?

And is Snoke really dead?  Will we see any help or advice or powers used from any Force-ghosts?  And will Emporer Palpatine be in this movie in some real physical body and not as a force-ghost?  When Darth Vader threw Palpatine “down the chute” and we saw an explosion (but not Palpatines body) could this be the explanation for Snoke’s “damaged” appearance? Was he “burned & battered”? Is Snoke really Palpatine?  If not, then we need to be told more about who Snoke really is, even if he is really dead. STOP leaving the audience hanging. Answer the questions!

I hope J. J. Abrams learns a good lesson from the failure of the Last Jedi. The fail was, quite simply: Too many UN-answered questions and leaving the audience hanging. Far too many folks felt a big, BIG frustrating letdown.    Time will tell.

Star Wars & The Star Forge

Before Darth Vader, before Emporer Palpatine, before Yoda, even before the Old Republic, there was:

The STAR FORGE. This was an automated shipyard which could build a massive and nearly endless supply of spaceships, battle droids, etc.

It was built by The Rakata, a vicious, cruel race of beings who were very dark-side and who did rule a vast and very large part of the Galaxy. Sadly, they would rule far too long, for many thousands of years. But eventually, the tide turned against them. Here, we learn about their great creation: “The Star Forge”.  Thanks to The Scoundrel’s Cantina and Youtube.  🙂

What went wrong with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

By now, you’ve already seen it: Star Wars, “The Last Jedi”. After I saw it, I felt it was a letdown. Here’s why:

1. SNOKE—He gets killed.  Seriously? When fans had oodles of questions about him? He was portrayed differently, too. Before the Last Jedi, he was Dark, Mysterious, talked a bit slow. Suddenly, in the Last Jedi, he’s about 3 times more outgoing, far less mysterious and much more like a sarcastic, arrogant butt-head. But then he gets killed. Go figure.  Unless this is somehow setting things up for a super-showdown later between Rey and Kylo Ren, it seemed like a waste.

2. The Asian Lady and Finn. What is this all about, anyway? What is the point? Frankly, why are they even in the movie? To me they seem like “filler” characters who really don’t need to be there. But it gets worse—-

3. That “lady captain or commander” of the Starship. Was she a blonde? I can’t even remember her name, but she seemed utterly clueless about strategy or fighting/battle tactics and all she had was a 10-story Ego to go with her title. I wondered if she were secretly working for the dark side for part of the movie.

4. With Snoke gone, how will Kylo Ren advance in the Dark side of the Force? Rey, still has “the old Ancient books” on her ship, right? So she could get more knowledge from those.

5. We STILL haven’t found out who Rey’s parents are.

6. We still haven’t found out who created the first order and why.

7. We still don’t know how Maz Kanata got posession of Luke’s old Lightsaber.

8. We still don’t know who Maz Kanata is.

After all that, it appears that the slate has been wiped clean for the next movie to take-off and begin a whole new direction/chapter but—-it’s hard to imagine if or how it could be as good or recapture-the-old-glory of previous Star Wars.  Will Luke or Yoda ever help out, as Force-ghosts, in future battles? Unknown.

Star Wars Questions

In about a month, the new Star Wars movie “The Last Jedi” will show in theatres. Here are some questions I hope we get answers to:

1. Who is Rey? Is she a reincarnation of Shmi Skywalker? Or another secret daughter of Padme?

2. Who is Snoke? Is he Palpatine? Did Palpatine really die? All we saw was an explosion. Is he Darth Vader? That would explain the gouge in his head. Or could he be Lord Vitiate/Valkorian? This would explain Snoke’s age & knowledge.

3. In a recent trailer, Luke tells Rey to “resist it”. It? Not “him” or “her”. What is “it” ?

4. Who is Maz Kanata? We assume she is good or neutral. How do we know? Does she know of Snoke? Does Snoke know of her?

5. Will we hear any communication whatsoever from the Force-ghosts of Yoda or Obi-Wan?

6. What convinced Luke that “the Jedi must end” ? Has Luke discussed this with the Force-ghosts of Yoda or Obi-Wan? What new, or very old, knowledge has Luke discovered on the Island? What new powers might he have now?

7. What if Rey’s parents were powerful Siths? What if Luke killed them? What if Rey finds out? What if Luke tells her himself?

8. Why was the First Order created? By who?

I hope we get answers.  It should be a fun movie. You can see more of my posts (on various topics) at:  thewordpressowl.wordpress.com
